Sumalee was born and raised in America's Heartland, in Columbus, Ohio. Her mother is from the Philippines and her father from Thailand. Sumalee's ethnic heritage is Filipino, Thai, Chinese, and German.

Before pursuing her career in the arts, Sumalee worked as an investment banking analyst for Morgan Stanley in both New York and Hong Kong. She received her B.A. from Harvard and is also a U.S. Fulbright Scholar.  

As a budding film producer, Sumalee is in post-production on her first feature film, The Deal, with Electric Entertainment.


As an actor, Sumalee has recurred on numerous TV shows like This Is Us, VEEP, Scandal, NCIS, Nashville, and ER. Her voice-over credits include nearly 100 AAA video games and animated series, including the Emmy Award-winning Transformers Prime, where she plays Arcee, and Ghost of Tsushima, where she plays Yuna.

Sumalee's granduncle, Severino Montano, is also a revered National Artist of the Philippines.
